Art Caws: Why I Have Decided Against Establishing “Art Caws” as a Publication on Medium
The Medium platform just isn’t the right place for such a publication for a number of reasons.
--
It had been my intention to start an Arts-Focused Publication that dealt with introducing readers to Information about the Arts that isn’t often included in many existing Arts Publications. Initially, I thought that Medium might be the appropriate place to begin my Art Caws Project. There were a number of reasons I initially thought of Medium as a potential platform, but after some time, that assessment has Evolved.
Medium, as a type of Social Media Platform, attracts a lot of the same types of Users as many of the other Popular Social Media Platforms. It has taken some time for my work to attract enough attention to yield a Useful Assessment of its Appropriateness to this Platform. Judging from what is popular on the Medium platform, and the various responses to my work, I have determined that Medium readers are not generally interested in the specific types of pieces I have envisioned for Art Caws.
As I mentioned in a previous essay, the overall Quality of Posts on Medium is Atrocious. There are a large number of poorly trained and inarticulate people making contributions to Medium on a daily basis. There are far too many Rabid Political Junkies (escaped Loudmouths from Twitter and Facebook, it appears) and Self-Promoting Hustlers on the platform. The number of poorly researched Political Rants and Pseudo-Technical Posts is comparable to tabloids like the National Enquirer. (Without the occasional humorous tabloid-ish story about “Space Babies” that at least makes one laugh.) There are too many people Virtue Signaling and/or Selling Intellectual Snake Oil on the platform to make it useful to anyone looking to find a well-informed and loyal audience for the Arts. In many respects, it is a Traffic Jam of Idiocy.
